Meet The "Cedar" Tree

Cedar trees are often confused with other trees, especially junipers. True cedars (Cedrus) are native to the mountains around the Mediterranean and in western Himalaya. These large trees can grow up to 120 feet tall in the wild and are best known for their fragrant wood.
There are four species of true cedar trees; three of which have cultivated varieties. They have a mainly pyramidal form when young that gradually turns to a more wide spread base and flat top when mature.
They are most closely related to Firs, sharing a very similar cone structure. Their bark is reddish, occasionally peeling and vertically furrowed.
