The Greenspire Linden or Tilia cordata, was introduced in 1960. It is hardy in zones 3-7 and grows to about 40 feet tall. It prefers moist but well drained soil, and full sunlight. A medium speed grower-growing as much as 15 feet in 10 years.

Blooming from late June to July the flowers are Yellow in color, fragrant and grow in drooping clusters that are very attractive to Bees . The heart shaped leaves are a medium green in the Spring, a shiny dark green in the Summer, and Yellow in the fall.

The Greenspire Linden is readily available at most nurseries. It is ideal for planting along city streets as it is highly resistant to storm damage & disease (though it does have problems with aphids and Japanese beetles). It is a very reliable street tree as the wood is flexable and allows for sway in windy areas. Originating in Europe this tree now grows everywhere in it's hardiness range.
